5A semifinal: Carl Albert vs. El Reno

Happy Day-After-Thanksgiving or Happy Black Friday or Happy The Iron Bowl Outcome Sucked Today from Putnam City Stadium in Oklahoma City.

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving.

Mine stunk, thanks for asking.

Why?

First of all, I spent all day in bed on Thanksgiving. My "turkey and dressing" was a frozen pizza. Yours truly started coming down with a little cold on Monday night and it's been building up all week.

It culminated yesterday, a miserable day spent in bed at my sister's house, doing nothing but watching TV, taking medicine and falling in and out of consciousness (a la Tiger Woods after his wreck today).

My Thanksgiving was on Wednesday night, when I probably felt even worse than I did in yesterday. We had a family gathering in Dover and since both my sister and brother-in-law were working late, it was my duty to get myself and three kids to the event.

Oh, and I also had to bake some brownies, which was the "thing" I was supposed to take. I also had to take some deviled eggs that my sister made...and the three kids.

I got the kids and the eggs into the house, but in the mass confusion of getting everyone inside, the brownies didn't make it.

They also didn't make it past Thursday as I finished off the entire batch in my sister's bed. Needless to say, "Get Fit Swish" ain't going so well.

Then on Friday, my Auburn Tigers put up a valiant effort, but ultimately fell short in killing Alabama's national title hopes in the annual Iron Bowl. Auburn got up 14-0 in the first quarter and I instantly wrote on my Facebook page that 14 points was NOTHING for Alabama to make up at that point in the game. Sure enough, the Tide tied it by halftime and went on to win 26-21 with a touchdown in the final two minutes.

CRAP!!!!

So that's why my holiday has stunk it up so far. Luckily, I've still got Bedlam (we'll see what kind of tune I'm singing this time tomorrow night) and a TON of potentially awesome high school playoff games.

We'll be updating the Carl Albert-El Reno game live right here. I'll also be updating the huge 2A showdown between No. 1 Lincoln Christian and No. 2 Davis down in Davis. Kevin Farr is down there and, if he's unable to find a spot in the press box, he'll be calling yours truly.

So sit back, loosen that belt (because you probably had turkey and dressing yesterday, not the frozen pizza that I dined on) and relax....and enjoy the updates, too, of course.

Also, be sure to check out twitter for updates on this and other games at twitter.com/michaelswisher.

Carl Albert won the toss and deferred. El Reno will get the ball to start the game. Carl Albert is defending the east end zone. El Reno will be moving right to left on your radio dial....oh wait, we're online. Nevermind.

1st quarter

El Reno tried some Auburn trickeration on its first play from scrimmage, handing it off to slot man Matthew Pruitt, who then pulled up to pass downfield. However, the Pruitt's pass was picked off by Markell Walker and returned 31 yards to the El Reno 44 just 16 ticks into the game.

Not a good start for the Indians (that's my first of many obvious statements of the night).

Titans take advantage. Doing it all on the ground, Carl Albert goes 44 yards in 7 plays, capped by 1-yard sneak by J.T. Realmuto. After extra point, it's 7-0 CA at 8:16 of the first.

Titans add another one, this time a 28-yard TD run by Tre Porter to cap a six-play, 47-yard drive (Indians went three-and-out on their possession and punted). After Manger's extra-point, it's 14-0 Titans at 4:38 of the first.

Through two possessions for both teams, El Reno has run four plays to Carl Albert's 13. Indians have more turnovers (1) than first downs. And, of course, Carl Albert has the 14 points.

El Reno goes three-and-out again. Only "good" news is that Carl Albert finally starts a drive on its own side of the field, albeit at the 45.

OTHER SCORES OF NOTE:

Lincoln Christian and Davis tied 7-7 after 1.

Seiling leads Forgan 8-6 after 1 in Class C

Kingfisher leading 7-6 over Sperry.....CHECK THAT...Kingfisher now up 14-6 in the second.

Porter scores his second TD, this time from three yards out. It's 21-0 with 1:00 left in first. Gut check time for El Reno, which has given up as many points in the first quarter tonight as it has in any full game this season (yes, I just stole that from Ryan Aber, who informed me of that).

2nd quarter

The second quarter will begin with another El Reno punt after yet another 3-and-out. Carl Albert takes over at own 44 at 11:50 of second.

Davis has just scored again to take 13-7 lead on Lincoln Christian in 2A. Also, Millwood leads Verdigris 14-0 and Kingfisher is up 14-6 on Sperry. In Class A, Stroud leading Cashion 21-0 in second.

OK, it's getting ugly in a hurry. Realmuto scores from 40 yards out for 28-0 Carl Albert lead at 10:11 of second quarter. It took the Titans three plays to travel the 56 yards.

And it's getting worse for ER. On first play on ensuing drive, Everheart throws INT to Alex Polston, who returns it 16 yards to the ER 27.

Titans drive it down to 1. It's 4th-and-1 with 7:45 left in half and CA calls a timeout, apparently going for it.

Realmuto scores his third TD on a keeper...it's 35-0 with 7:41 left in first half. Dozens of people leaving El REno's side of the stands. Not saying they're ALL El Reno fans, but some of them definitely were.

The CA defense just as impressive as its offense as the Titans are absolutely swarming to the ball. Everheart can do nothing. We're midway through second quarter and Indians are still in search of their initial first down.

MENTION IT AND IT SHALL HAPPEN: At 6:10 of the second quarter, El Reno gets its initial first down...albeit on a face mask penalty. At this point, they'll take what they can get.

Well when things go bad, they just go bad.

Carl Albert drove 88 yards to the El Reno 1 before fumbling it over with 47 seconds left. On El Reno's first play, the Indians were flagged for holding in the end zone. Safety. 37-0 Carl Albert.

Mercifully the first half ends with a 37-0 score.

3rd quarter

CA gets the ball at own 36 to start. Indians making a point to stop the run (which accounted for 274 of CA's first-half yards), but Realmuto goes to the air to convert a pair of third downs. Titans driving, face 3rd-and-goal at 8 with 5:12 left in quarter.

Good news for El Reno: It blocked Carl Albert's 25-yard field goal attempt on the Titans' opening drive.

Bad news for El Reno: That drive, though fruitless, took up the first 7 minutes of the third quarter.

Realmuto scores on a 6-yard keeper with 2:19 left in third to push lead to 44-0.

Folks this one is over (another obvious statement).

I'm going to concentrate my services elsewhere on the site (there's a good game going on down in Davis and I'm updating Farr's blog).

Unless a miracle takes place or Jessica Simpson joins me in the press box (which would be a miracle), I'm going to call it a night on this blog.

Thanks for reading.

Forget this game, Swish. Just help Kevin with LC/Daivs and keep rounding up other scores.
